Sophia Herrera of Sophie Uncharted
‘‘Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” - Mark Twain
This is an important reason why I travel. Being bi-racial, I loved being around different languages, foods, ethnicities and cultures. But, I did experience the above. By being exposed to new places, people and experiences, travel has helped me to remember that the world is full of diverse people with different experiences and opinions that will challenge my own thinking and appreciate the value of connecting with and understanding others. And to not be bitter about negative experiences.
I also travel to remind me that the world is a massive, beautiful place and that I need to do my part in taking care of this gift of earth. It’s an unimaginable feeling to witness wild animals in their natural habitat, to swim in oceans full of life, to experience the sunrise on a conquered mountain. The more I experience the beauty of the earth, the more the I feel that I need to do my part to leave no trace.
I keep going because the more I travel, the more I better myself and become a better global citizen, and maybe this will help others to do the same.
